Can’t Wait for the Next Season of Stranger Things? These Weird Home Inspection Finds Will Tide You Over

As a home inspector, sometimes you’ll encounter a house or even just a room that is just … strange.

Now, if you’re not familiar with the show Stranger Things on Netflix, it’s a science fiction series set in the 1980’s — basically, if Stephen King and Steven Spielberg had a baby, it would be their child. On the show, a group of kids deal with a secret government laboratory conducting supernatural experiments related to a parallel dimension known as “the upside down.” It’s an epic battle between good and evil with a healthy dose of good old fashioned pre-teen shenanigans.

What does any of this have to do with home inspections, you might ask? Well, as I said, there are strange things and then there are stranger things, and then there’s the upside down. Here are some examples from the perspective of a home inspector:

There’s a Strange Thing in the House

So here’s the story: Inspector Travis shut off the power to the entire house, but one light stayed on. Strange. He searched and searched for an alternate source of power but found absolutely nothing. Stranger. He does a great job of explaining what the cause might be in the video, but I’m still going with GHOST LIGHT.

An Even Stranger Thing in the Yard

The tree is older than the sprinkler system, so how did the sprinkler get under the tree? Well, it grew over it. I get that, but … that’s an old tree. Just how old is that sprinkler system? It’s a head scratcher.

The Upside Down in the Crawl Space

Just try to tell me that you wouldn’t reconsider your life choices if you ran into this in a crawl space.

Now, when I looked at this, I thought that some poor critter had crawled up there and committed some sort of ritual self-sacrifice on the water lines, but the inspectors informed me that it’s actually a grosser situation than that. This is mold or some other type of growth, indicating that there is likely a leak in these lines.

Speaking of Upside Down …

In case the heading or the image itself didn’t already clue you in, these tiles have been laid upside down. I just … (shakes head). How do you not notice something like that ALL THE WAY DOWN THE HALL?

If you have any weird or hard-to-explain “stranger things” lurking in your house, you can have a home inspector come by any time to get advice on any home repairs you might need and the best strategies for home maintenance and efficiency.
