The Man Behind the Name at Boggs Inspection Services

The Man Behind the Name at Boggs Inspection Services

Starting a business is a little like starting a family. Over the years, both the company and its employees evolve to echo their founder’s work ethic, mindset, outlook and drive. At Boggs Inspection Services, Dwayne Boggs has spent the last two decades building a strong foothold in the industry across western Washington. Today, like Boggs himself, the business is going strong and looking forward to whatever the future may bring.

Dwayne Boggs Applies Work Ethic and Detail-Oriented Mindset to Everything He Does

Raised outside of Cleveland, Ohio, Boggs grew up hunting, fishing, camping and spending time outdoors with his family. At the age of 23, he started working for the airlines, hauling and moving freight at the airport. After a few years of hard work, Boggs was quickly promoted and became responsible for a crew of more than 40 people.

“It was as a lead foreman that I really developed my multi-tasking skills,” recalls Boggs. “Having to answer questions, knowing where people needed to be and making sure the work was completed required a lot of quick thinking.”

After a few years, he returned to school and earned a bachelors in business administration at Strayer University. The year after graduation, United Airlines transferred Boggs to SeaTac airport and he settled in Olympia. But with the instability brought to air travel following 9/11, it was time for a change.

Opening Boggs Inspection Services Meant Switching Careers from Airports to Air Ducts

After reading about the industry in a magazine, Boggs took the plunge and opened a home inspection business. Like any new venture, there were growing pains but he credits his family’s work ethic for instilling a stick-to-it attitude.

“I used to visit my grandfather in the summers down in Alabama,” Boggs says. “It was a great time in my life and truly where I got my work ethic. My grandfather was from the Depression era, and he didn’t really believe in being idle. There was always something to do.”

During summer visits, for example, they’d tackle large projects like building a house. “We’d work from 6 a.m. until noon, break for lunch, and then be back at it until 5 or 5:30 p.m., six days a week. Sunday was always for church,” he says.

Later, at his grandfather’s funeral, Boggs recalls the number of people who paid tribute with stories of the man’s hard work, caring and dedication. These qualities remain a trademark of Boggs Inspection Services in all their dealings with customers, fellow businesses and civic partners across Western Washington.

Strong Employees Make a Strong Company at Boggs Inspection Services

Today, Boggs Inspection Services offers commercial and residential inspections as well as specialty options for log homes, manufactured homes and those for sale. Whether an 11-month warranty inspection, annual maintenance inspection, pre-listing or post-purchase inspection, families can rest assured their property is safe inside and out.

Like their offerings, the Boggs geographic footprint has grown across South Sound. They’ve expanded into South King, Pierce, Kitsap, Grays Harbor, Mason and Lewis counties, with inspectors living in those areas. “Our plans for the future are to keep doing what we do best: solid inspections,” says Boggs, “All while growing as a team with the right people, giving employees a growth path and taking care of our community.”

“I really enjoy the business part,” Boggs continues. “I love the houses and building science, but I get a lot of satisfaction from providing good jobs for my employees. It may sound odd, but one of the most satisfying experiences was having an employee buy his first home with the career he now has at Boggs Inspection. I have had employees take their dream vacations and go on that honeymoon they never got to take.”

For Dwayne Boggs, Community Partnerships Helped Build a Solid Future

To give back, Boggs is the president of the Northwest Home and Building Inspectors Association and belongs to other local civic groups. As president of the Northwest Home and Building Inspectors Association, he organizes continuing education conferences and mentors inspectors throughout the region. With more than 20 years in the industry, he’s encouraged by positive changes, especially the increase of women and younger professionals raising the bar.

They also host several annual company-wide fundraisers. Over the last several years, they’ve donated more than forty thousand dollars to local groups like the Rachel Lynn Henley Foundation and the Washington Autism Alliance.

Along the way, Boggs built a strong partnership at home too. He met Ana Ramirez in Costco one Friday night and the rest is history. Today, Ramirez is his partner both at home and the office, where she works as Operations Director.
